This series is open to the blind and visually impaired in the community as well as their friends and family, and we also welcome employees of ABVI-Goodwill to participate. This series is free of charge and we will provide medical motors if people do not have any means of transportation. We highly suggest that people register for the series due to registering for transportation. There is no age limitation for this program.

Technology Demonstration

Description:

Would you like to see what's new in audio devices and aids for low vision or blindness? Join us at ABVI-Goodwill for a technology demonstration. During the event several vendors will be at the agency to demonstrate some of the latest technology options available:
 
Dan Killoran, C Tech will demonstrate a MultiView 3-in-1 desk top video magnifier, Compact Plus and Compact Mini portable video magnifiers, an Eye Pal Solo, an Apex Notetaker, Victor Stream, Intel Reader, KNFB Mobile Reader, and Dolphin Easy Reader software.

Robert Oyer will demonstrate a Merlin 22" desk top video magnifier, a Jordy, new and improved Amigo and Pebble portable video magnifiers, an Acrobat Short Arm video magnifier, and the Eye-Pal-Solo.

Gary VanCamp, Vuzix Corporation, will demonstrate a SightMate LV920, a SightMate Combo, SightMate Freedom Viewer, and other new products using augmented reality software.  

Bill Kilroy, from Freedom Scientific, will demonstrate the ONYX XL transportable video magnifier, the Ruby and Sapphire portable video magnifiers, the Topaz desktop video magnifier and the SARA (Scanning and Reading Appliance).

ABVI-Goodwill staff will be demonstrating screen reading and screen enlargement software.

       The technology demonstration will be held in the main lobby at
         ABVI-Goodwill on April 14th, from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. 
 ABVI-Goodwill InSight Shop will be open during the demonstration.

Zoom Text and Windows

Title:Zoom Text and Windows
Description:

This is a 4 session class geared for students who use ZoomText and want to learn the basics of this program.  Topics such as increasing magnification, reversing contrast, as well as a basic overview of the speech included with Zoomtext will be covered.  In addition, students will learn basic Windows concepts such as minimizing and maximizing windows, moving around the desktop, opening a program, and so much more. This is a four (4) session class. Classes are: April 15, 22, 29, and May 6. Please RSVP to Alexis Read aread@abvi-goodwill.com (585) 327-5506 by April 9, 2010. Transportation can be provided by Medical Motors if requested by participant.  The class costs $45 for all 4 sessions.

Creative Arts Group for Adults

Description:

Come and enjoy 8-weeks of art appreciation, art history, art-making and fun! Art projects will include mosaics, jewelry, fabric art, wood and floral projects.

Art-making can promote wellness, relaxation and enjoyment, as well as enhance living skills.

*No art skill necessary to participate. Beginners welcome! Projects will be adapted to meet individual needs. Assistance will be provided.

The group will be facilitated by Shannon Halligan, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist.

JAWS and Windows

Description:Learn the basics of JAWS as you learn about keyboard navigation for Windows. You will learn about maximizing and minimizing windows as well as how to navigate around the computer using JAWS for Windows.  Navigating through dialog boxes will also be discussed.  Ability to keyboard 20 words per minute is a prerequisite for this class.
 
This is a four (4) session class.Classes are:May 13, 20, 27, and June 3
